Compensation: $22/hour, two weeks paid vacation

About the Role


Hera Gallery is seeking a motivated, community-minded individual to serve as Gallery Director. This part-time administrative role offers the opportunity to lead one of Rhode Island’s most respected artist-run spaces, working closely with our Board of Directors and vibrant membership.

This is a unique opportunity for someone passionate about the arts, community engagement, and nonprofit leadership to shape programming, support artists, and contribute to a meaningful creative mission. Your skills, ideas, and interests will help shape the future of the organization.


Key Responsibilities

Administrative (Operations + Programming)

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the gallery

  • Plan and coordinate exhibitions, including installation

  • Supervise and schedule interns and volunteers

  • Maintain records, manage memberships, and prepare bulk mailings

  • Update and maintain the Hera Gallery website

  • Attend and prepare monthly reports for Board of Directors meetings

  • Open and close the gallery (Wed–Fri, 1–5 PM) and attend evening/weekend events as needed

Public Relations & Communications

  • Write and edit press releases, newsletters, showcards, and social content

  • Build and maintain relationships with local press and arts organizations

  • Manage social media presence and develop marketing strategies

  • Represent Hera in public-facing contexts with professionalism and enthusiasm

Development & Outreach

  • Collaborate with Board members on fundraising initiatives

  • Help grow the Friends of Hera and donor base

  • Oversee high school and college internship programs

  • Support community engagement efforts and inclusive programming

Required Qualifications

  • Self-motivated, organized, and proactive

  • Strong leadership and delegation skills in collaborative settings

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks effectively

  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Canva

  • Willing to complete a HubSpot Social Media & Marketing Certificate upon hire

  • Comfortable with public-facing roles and community engagement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background or interest in visual arts

  • Experience in nonprofit administration

  • Exhibition installation experience

  • Familiarity with basic web design

  • Fundraising and/or program development experience

  • Passion for community-centered art initiatives

Schedule & Compensation

  • Hours: 25 hours/week

    • Gallery hours: Wed–Fri, 1–5 PM

    • Additional hours: for evening board meetings, gallery events, and programming

  • Pay: $22/hour, two weeks paid vacation
