Artist's Statement

My work is a continuing search for subjects which can strike an emotional chord: The feeling of looking far down on the pathways of flowing rivers or streams, the colors and shapes that convey the majesty and mystery of deep caverns, the awe- someness of windswept clouds, the explosion of waves breaking against rocks, the peaceful flow of water in marshes. In my search for visual reality, I work without the constructs of perspective which could obstruct my painterly concerns. Since the universal circle is my personal visual symbol, I include it in all my work. Sometime it is dominant. At other times it is sug- gested in a texture or in lines added or removed. For periods of time, I have worked in various two- and three-dimensional media, i.e.: Wood, steel, oil paint, acrylics, aqua pencil, encaustic and mixed media. Now I can enjoy searching my experience for the medium to fit the message. For me, art must appeal to the intellect, the emo- tions and the nonverbal. In talking about my work, if words can't express it all, my search is successful.
