ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is introspective and intuitive, evolving through the search for content and imagery that reflect my core experience.  Part of my process is the hunt for materials that helps to maintain a productive connection between daily life and art making, so that creative work is ongoing.  These common but valued materials, a scrap of fabric or printed paper, an old dress pattern or a red button, often suggest a place to begin and can provide the essential metaphor to which symbolic color, line, and shape refer.  The layering of plastic pigment with or without added material create subtle textural variations, evoking the multi-layered quality of human experience.  In the completed work, it is my hope that these become meaningful in ways that the rational mind may not comprehend but to which the soul responds.
