| Crossing Currents:
Feminism Now A Collaboration between Hera Gallery and The Hive Archive |
|
With a special Providence Art Windows Installation curated by
Delia Kovac Hera Gallery and The Hive Archive are pleased to invite the public to the URI Feinstein Campus Gallery during the month of March for Crossing Currents: Feminism Now. This exhibition is a collaboration between Hera Gallery and The Hive Archive, and will focus on the changing identity of a feminist artist. Since its 1974 inception, Hera Gallery has been a proactive artistic force dedicated to the advancement of artists and proliferation of fine art in Southern Rhode Island. Born out of the feminist ideal of the creation of a cooperative gallery space that was run by women with the intention of serving women artists, Hera has thrived through the active engagement of the artistic community that supports it. While the structure of the cooperative has changed and the demographic has shifted to include male artists, the mission of Hera has remained constant over the decades. Hera’s goal has remained to promote emerging and established artists, to bring meaningful artistic experiences to a suburban/rural community, and to use art to address aesthetic and conceptual issues. The pieces displayed by Hera Gallery artists in this show are sure to maintain this long tradition of excellence. The Hive Archive was founded in 2001 as a non-profit, feminist arts organization with a mission to promote gender equality by dismantling obstacles that limit women and girls in reaching their full creative potential. Our work is focused on empowerment through art, creative expression, and civic involvement. We believe that all art disciplines can be used as vehicles for promoting positive social change.
