Hera Gallery is pleased to showcase the recent works of artists Claudia Flynn and
Cynthia Farnell. Both artists are longtime members of the gallery, and have previously exhibited at Hera. However, the work that will be displayed at this show will be fresh and unique as this exhibition gives the artists an opportunity to present the audience with artworks that have never been put on display before.
Claudia Flynn will be presenting a pictorial installation. Her work articulates her fascination with ancient world cultures, and conveys a sense of antiquity in their design and execution. But the work simultaneously reveals the artists determination to corrode age-old assumption, barbaric practices, and unspoken taboos. Flynn employs alchemical combinations of organic materials such as horsehair, human hair, animal teeth, blood, and volcanic rock to create her objects. Claudia uses her work to address topics such as metaphysics, gender, and social justice; consequently, her archetypal self-representations speak widely to the human condition.
Cynthia Farnell will be exhibiting her recent two-dimensional works. Farnell’s work carefully examines the poetics and beauty of her subjects. Whether she is sketching a flower stamen or a fishing lure, her drawings capture the form and grace of the object. Farnell’s images are light and visually delicate, and appear to be on the verge of disappearing at any moment. Cynthia is an internationally exhibited artist, who studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and Auburn University in Alabama.
