Call to Emerging Artists…In Need of Feedback? Hera Gallery Hosts Critiques with Well-Known Local Artists and Teachers…

Hera Gallery, Hera Educational Foundation, and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts are pleased to present Critiques and Conversation at Hera Gallery this Fall. Three artists working in three different media will hold critiques three different evenings in October and November. Hera has slots for four local artists to participate in each session. This is a great opportunity for emerging artists to learn from a small, informal critique and to meet with other artists.

Leslie Bostrum will hold the first critique for artist working with two dimensions on October 8, from 7:30-9:30 at Hera Gallery. Bostrum received a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. She is currently working as an Associate Professor of Art at Brown University. Her work has been on display in solo, two person, and group exhibitions all over the country.

Darrell Matsumoto will conduct the second critique for photographers on October 24, from 7:30- 9:30. Matsumoto is Professor of Photography at White Pines College, Chester, New Hampshire. He received his Masters of Fine Arts in photography from RISD, and his Bachelors in Fine Arts from the University of Hawaii. He has exhibited his work extensively. His most recent exhibition was a solo show at the Newport Art Museum.

Anne Rocheleau conducts the last critique on November 6, from 7:30-9:30, sculptors, 3D and installation artists. Rocheleau is director of the Rhode Island Foundation Gallery in Providence. She received Bachelors of Arts in ceramics from California State University in Sacramento, a Masters in glass (casting and sculpture) from RISD, a Steelworkers Union certification in welding, and has also received training in blacksmithing from RISD, and bronze casting from Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine. She has exhibited widely throughout the country, and has lectured and taught at RISD, Providence College, the Community College of Rhode Island, and the University of Connecticut.

Advance registration for these critiques is necessary, as there is limited space available. $15, or $12 (Friends of Hera) will be charged upon registration. Artists interested in this special opportunity can register either by phone by calling Hera Gallery at 401-789-1488, or in person by stopping at Hera during gallery hours.

What to Bring: Artists should bring their portfolios, with samples of original work as well as slides.
