Guidelines for Exhibition: Frequently Asked Questions
and Instructions for the Announcement Card Competition.
What
kinds of work are accepted?
Original student work in any media, labeled on the front of
the work with appropriate information. Labels provided for
you to copy and attach to front of work, or prepare ahead
and Download
labels here. Unlabeled works will not be accepted. All
possible precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of
artwork, but it will not be insured and Hera is not responsible
for damage, lost, or broken work.
How
many pieces are accepted for the exhibition?
No more than ten entries per grade (9-12) from each High School.
Can
students submit work independently of their school?
Yes, Limited to one entry per student.
When/Where
do we submit the work?
Saturday, January 15th, 2005,
from 10am-3pm, at Hera Gallery,
327 Main Street, Wakefield, Rhode Island, behind Phil's Restaurant.
Are there other ways of getting involved?
" Yes. Students interested in helping out with the show
behind the scenes can contact the gallery at 789-1488 or email
at info@heragallery.org.
Guidelines for Announcement Card Competition
Two students in grades 9-12 will be chosen by their teacher
to compete in the Announcement Card
Competition. The winning student, selected by the gallery,
will have their artwork reproduced on professional quality,
four-color announcement cards sent to 750 community members,
artists and art institutions. The winning student will receive
25 cards for his or her own use.
There
are no restrictions to the size or media of the submitted
works.Teachers interested in submitting graphic design work
need to contact Hera Gallery for size and resolution specifications.
Original
artwork must be submitted by Wednesday,
December 8th, 2004. Gallery hours are Wed-Fri (1 -
5), Sat (10 - 4).
Directions
from Providence:
Take 95 South to Route 4 to Route 1. Take exit for Wakefield.
Continue through 3 traffic lights. Look for Hera on right
just after Phil's Restaurant.
From Westerly and points South:
Take Route to 1st Wakefield exit (1A). Stay on Main Street
and look for Hera on the left just before Phil's.

December 8th, 2004 Deadline for submissions if you
are a high school participating in the Announcement Card
Competition.
- Saturday,
January 15th, 2005 Drop-off work for the show at
Hera between 10am- 3pm.
- Saturday,
February 5, 2005 Opening Reception and Awards
Ceremony for Grades 9 - 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (awards
at 8 p.m.) and for Grades K - 8 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
and -- the artists' friends, family, and teachers are also
invited -- come to Hera and enjoy the opening reception
and awards ceremony
- Saturday,
March 5,
2005 Show ends.
- Saturday,
March 12, 2005 Pick-up work 10-4pm.
Note:
the same person who dropped off the work should pick it up--in
other words, if a teacher dropped off work, that teacher will
pick it up, not the student or parents. If a student submitted
work individually, that student must pick it up. Hera is not
responsible for work left at the gallery, and will not retain
it indefinitely. If necessary, please call ahead of time to
make alternate arrangements to pick up work.
