Alexandra Broches
Alexandra Broches: The Garden
April 6th  – May 4th, Opening Reception:  Saturday, April 6th, 6 – 8 pm
As Alexandra Broches states, she “Returns again and again to the garden as subject matter, from the small urban front yards, to parks, cemeteries, memorials and other managed landscapes on a larger scale.
These photographs explore what a garden is and what the garden has meant at various times in history, how societies relate to and live in nature. They reflect the ways people bring plant life and the act of growing things into their lives for survival and pleasure, for food and for spiritual and creative expression.”

Alexandra Broches will have a Gallery Talk at Hera on Saturday, May, 4th at 6:00pm!

Michael Yefko

Michael Yefko
: Repeat Repeat
April 6th  – May 4th; Opening Reception: Saturday, April 6th, 6 –8 pm
“Repeat Repeat” is a conceptual installation of sculpture, painting, and drawing that explores the repeating moves made by an artist.
Responding to the geometric patterns in movement, culture and environmental systems, Yefko is drawn to the repeating rhythms of life in all its complexities. For Yefko, repeating marks, shapes, and color act as metaphors for breath, recovery, desire, and cultural patterns. “Repeating oneself is as essential as breathing,” says Yefko.

New Work by Claudia Flynn, Connie Greene, Jill McLaughlin, Troy West
March 2nd - March 30th, 2013; Opening Reception: March 2, 6 – 8 pm
New Works features the recent artwork of Associate Members, Claudia Flynn, Connie Green, Jill McLaughlin, and Troy West. The artists will be displaying a variety of media from sculpture, collage and assemblage to drawings and photography. Working from an emotive state, Claudia Flynn’s pieces are interested in human culture and the symbolic that is viscerally felt and realized.
Connie Greene has recently begun to photograph and write about the farmers she met at the seven South County markets last summer. Jill McLaughlin’s latest collages and assemblages are inspired by memories, nature and her own inner stories. Educator, architect, activist and artist Troy West creates steel sculptures from materials gleaned from scrap yards, what the sea washes ashore and from debris people throw away, - society’s dregs.
Read more about each artist on our blog.

The uniting concepts illustrated in Design For Change are articulated in the preliminary sketches, drawings, drafts, models, and photographs that each participant has contributed.

Barbara Pagh: Coast to Coast
Opening Reception, Saturday, September 8th, from 6:00 to 8:00pm
Exhibition Dates: September 8th – October 13th

In this exhibition, Barbara Pagh will bring together a selection of work from several related series of prints. Landscape has been a dominant theme in her work for the past twenty years. There is no attempt to create a realistic representation of place, but a subjective impression based on structure and color and resulting in a layering of texture and form. Pagh often incorporates images of close textural details and natural objects. Although taken from a photograph, the resulting abstraction encourages the viewer to look at the landscape in a new way. More info in our blog.
Myron Rubenstein: Figures In-taglio+
Opening Reception, Saturday, September 8th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
Exhibition Dates: September 8th – October 13th

Myron previously worked as a graphic designer, and created art for years with traditional media, with a focus on canvas, oil and mixed media. Over the last few years he has embraced his digital skills, searching for the convergence of traditional painting, photography and the virtual world of computing. Incorporating today's technology with traditional painting on canvas has led to a very personal form of computer generated art. More info in our blog.

Our new home, 10 High Street, Wakefield, RI is still in the process of being renovated to become a gallery space. In order to present our exhibitions properly we needed to install LED track lighting, signage and other improvements to make the space Hera Gallery. To help with these costs, Hera has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to best showcase our summer exhibitions in our new space.

With your help, this one time cost will help us continue to bring challenging artwork, exhibitions, and events to southern Rhode Island.  Here is the link to our project, Hera Gallery Heats Up with Summer Art.

Beauty in the Beast: Photography of Brutalist Architecture
Please join artists Viera Levitt and Elizabeth Lind for 'Tea at 5' at Hera Gallery on Thursday, August 30th from 5 to 8 p.m. for a cup of tea and an informal talk about their work.
Through her photographic exploration of a style of architecture often seen as soulless and austere, Viera Levitt provides us with a new lens to discover its hidden beauty. Viera's photographs have been able to capture abstract and geometric sculptural forms, elegant details and even harmony in these architectural "elephants" through her clean artistic style that "listens" for echoes of the architecture's grandiose and utopian vision. Supported in part by RISCA's Project Grant. For more information and slideshow please visit www.facebook.com/events/394604067254171 or http://youtu.be/lpfg0NcGsvU

Elizabeth Lind

Figs, Figures & Other Mysteries
Please join artists Viera Levitt and Elizabeth Lind for 'Tea at 5' at Hera Gallery on Thursday, August 30th from 5 to 8 p.m. for a cup of tea and an informal talk about their work.
Elizabeth Lind speaks through the language of symbols, creating sculptures of women, evocative environments, and natural objects that allude to deeper meanings within the work. Employing direct carving techniques and using the tools and materials of thousands of years ago, her work explores the fluid nature of shifting forms under the stone's surface. Read more or comment: https://www.facebook.com/events/394604067254171/

Due to development of the property, we have had to say goodbye to our building of more than thirty years on Main Street in Wakefield. When construction is completed, we hope to return to this location. While two years without a home is a significant loss, we also view it as a great opportunity to try new things. Our partnership with Bagelz of Wakefield to show the art of Hera Members in the Meeting Room Gallery is one such undertaking.
