What’s Next for Reproductive Freedom?
Speaker: Craig O'Connor, Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island

Tuesday, February 14, 2017
7-8:30pm

Unitarian Universalist Society
27 North Rd, Peace Dale, RI

RSVP REQUIRED - click here

AGENDA
Speakers include local activists and Craig O'Connor from Planned Parenthood Votes! RI.

- Update on what is happening in Rhode Island and in Washington, DC
- Planning next steps
- Taking action to support legislation
- Meeting with our elected officials

BACKGROUND
The outcome of the national elections means the threat to reproductive rights and access to health care, right here in Rhode Island, is frighteningly real.

That is why several of your neighbors are calling us together for a community meeting on reproductive freedom for residents of Northern RI.

What's at Stake?

Donald Trump has pledged to support defunding Planned Parenthood, repealing the Affordable Care Act, and to appoint anti-abortion judges to the Supreme Court. If Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that protect legal abortion, is overturned, control over reproductive rights will return to the states.

That is deeply concerning: Rhode Island receives an F from NARAL Pro-Choice America, and is considered hostile to abortion rights by the Guttmacher Institute.

In fact, the Rhode Island Constitution says, in Section 2, that "Nothing in this section shall be construed to grant or secure any right relating to abortion or the funding thereof."

In the next weeks and months, there will be a lot of activity to defend and expand reproductive rights in Rhode Island. Rhode Islanders are ready to fight for reproductive freedom, no matter what happens in DC!

Together, we will fight to protect reproductive freedom. And we will stand strong against the hateful rhetoric and policies threatening so many communities across the country - including women, immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQ community, people with disabilities, and more.

For right now, please know that we will never back down, our doors will not close, and we will not stop fighting.

In solidarity,
Craig (O'Conner)

P.S. Please click (https://plannedparenthoodvotes.org/node/67) to learn about the elections here in Rhode Island and learn more about why Rhode Island has so much work to do.

"Power Plant Impacts, What does it mean for Rhode Island?
Speaker: Paul Roselli, Burriville Land Trust

Tuesday, February 7, 2017
6:30-8:30pm

If built, the Invenergy project will destroy 200 acres of land near Echo Lake, Wallum Lake, Buck Hill Management area, George Washington Park and land owned by the Burrillville Land Trust. Many are protected properties purchased by voter approved Open Space bond referendums.

The power plant will not reduce your electric bill, but will impact your health, safety and make it impossible for Rhode Island municipalities to meet their greenhouse gas reductions as required by the Resilient Rhode Island Act. So why is this power plant being built? And what are the impacts to South County and other towns and cities in this region?

Come find out in this highly interactive lively presentation about the Invenergy project. The proposed power plant is a 1-gigawatt fracked gas diesel oil fired power plant that could be built in the middle of the woods in northwestern Rhode Island. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Learn the Facts is sponsored by the Burrillville Land Trust along with the Rhode Island Association of Conservation Commissions.

- The event is free and open to the public.
- Children are welcome.
